José Luis Ballester wins the Spanish Under 16 Championship

Castellón’s José Luis Ballester and Marta López from Almería have won the Spanish Under 16 Men’s and Women’s Championship in 2019, which was held simultaneously in Almerimar’s golf courses in Almerimar and Playa Serena.

The new champions of Spain Sub 16 underpin increasingly sporting trajectories that make them, despite their young age, intense references within the prolific quarry of Spanish golf.

Special attention for the Castellón-born José Luis Ballester, who is building a track record that vividly recalls what Sergio García, Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Jon Rahm achieved in their day, surpassing even some of them in their earliest stage, where José Luis Ballester already holds the titles of champion of Spain Benjamín 2013, Alevín 2015, Infantil 2016 and 2017 and Sub 16 2019, all the possible chain since he was 10 years old.

Interestingly, José Luis Ballester and Marta López shared honors in the Spanish Mixed Doubles Championship that they won, forming a couple, in 2018.

In this occasion, in Almerimar the one, in Playa Serena the other, both obtained the title in game by means of the forcefulness, surpassing their most outstanding rivals, Pablo Ereño and Carolina López-Chacarra, second classified, by six and five hits, respectively.

Jose Luis Ballester was much more difficult, who had to star in a spectacular reaction to unseat Pablo Ereño from the first place, who started in the last round with three shots over Castellón.

However, this significant difference did not prevent José Luis Ballester from winning thanks to a spectacular final score of 66, the best of the tournament, which led him to break the pace with a total of – 9 and a six-stroke advantage over Pablo Ereño, who was less fortunate, at home club with 75 shots to finish with a total of -3. In third position, the pair, Jaime Montojo also from Madrid completed the podium of this Championship of Spain Sub 16.
